IELTS Preparation (Upper Intermediate)

Course Description:

IELTS is required by a growing number of Australian universities to show student’s English levels prior entering to degree programs. The course aims to familiarise students with the test types and to help them acquire test-taking skills when undertaking the IELTS exam.

It aims to increase student’s IELTS scores by 1 or 2 grades so they can meet the English proficiency requirement of Diploma, Advanced Diploma courses, and any other purposes.

The class tasks include essay writing, effective reading comprehension via skimming and scanning, listening for gist or specific information, expanding lexis for effective communication. Regular test practice under exam conditions is the special feature of this course which will allow students to monitor their progress.

Assessment:

• This course consists of two types of assessment tasks – formative and summative. The formative assessment tasks are the in-class practice tasks and the summative assessment tasks are the weekly IELTS practice tests.

Articulation

• Successful completion of the IELTS Preparation course at IIBIT – Academy of English satisfy the English language requirements for entry into Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma courses at IIBIT, or, the English for Academic Purposes Advanced course.

Assessment

• The IELTS Preparation course has assessment tasks built into the course that are on-going and cumulative during the program. Assessment will involve weekly tests based on the format of the IELTS examination.

Entry Requirements

• The IELTS course is designed for students with an IELTS proficiency of 5.0 or equivalent assessed by other forms of test. Students are welcome to undertake an English test at IIBIT Academy of English for entry into this course.
