With Sewing 101 we are going back to the basics, starting from scratch, and taking you step by step through all the essentials to make learning to sew a fun and inspiring experience.
Sewing 101 is perfect for complete beginners & people who have sewn in the past but need a refresher, where they will learn how to competently use a sewing machine and complete a skirt or drawstring pants from a commercial pattern!
During this course you will learn:
· all of the necessary sewing terminology & equipment
· how to read a commercial pattern
· how to choose the right fabric for a garment, either a skirt or drawstring pants
· how to identify fabric grain lines
· different types of stitches & seam finishes you can complete using a sewing machine!
Projects: Denim tote bag and a Pencil Skirt, A- line skirt, or PJ pants from commercial pattern
Fabric and Supplies: Fabric provided for tote bag, and the pattern for the skirt/pants is provided as well. Students will need 3-4 yards of non-stretch fabric. wool, crepe, or cotton blends are ideal. Fabric is available for purchase $10 per yard.
Kristine is a womenswear fashion designer and sewing instructor based in New York City with an education in Fashion Design and Merchandising from Missouri State University.
In addition to her specialized education, Kristine has years of experience within the industry including positions at Ford Models, J. Mendel, Gurhan, and David Yurman.
Kristine also has her own clothing business K.BANASIK that has been sold in over 25 stores all of the world. She believes her clothing and sewing lessons empower students and build confidence.
This beginner sewing class is an entry level class. Students will learn any of the following projects a pin cushion, a mask, a pillow, a tote bag, a cosmetic case, pull-on shorts , or pull on pajama bottoms – one project a session / week.
Heirloom Sewing has long been associated with high quality cotton, silk or linen fabrics, French or English laces, Swiss embroidered lace, fine hand embroidery or lovely machine embroidery. All of this specialty area of sewing allows for creativity on the part of the seamstress.
Have fitting issues? Need patterns interpreted? Looking for creative ideas or a Valentino look? You pick the project (subject to instructor approval) and we work together to take your garments to the next level with details that add the "wow" factor to your sewing.
This is a very hands on class for beginners. We start making projects since first class. You will learn hand stitching, how to use a sewing machine, fix your favorite clothes, the use of patterns, among many others.
Classes will offer a range of possible structured projects, such as hats, scarves, dresses, bags, stuffies, pillows and pillow cases, pants, napkins, aprons, PJ bottoms, skirts, T-shirts, or any number of options.
