The trainee on completion will be expected to have attained a high level of operating skill, which will comply with the standard laid down in accordance with the HSE code of practice L117.

• Introduction to the forklift truck

• Battery care

• Components of the forklift truck

• Stability factors

• Steering operations (forward and reverse)

• Steering operations (confined/open areas)

• Picking up, putting down, transporting palletised loads

• Stacking and de-stacking loads at high, eye and low level

Assessment

• Theory and practical examination.

• 1 instructor : 1 counter balance truck : 3 candidates

Duration

The duration of the course will vary depending on the experience of the candidates.

• Novice operators: 5 day course

• Experienced operators: 1 day course
