StitchWorks was created in response to offshoring and its byproduct: fast fashion. Today, offshoring dominates the fashion industry. Large retailers send orders overseas to countries where production is fast, and labor is cheap.
Offshoring has led to the rise of fast fashion: the rapid production of cheap clothing that mimic trends from the runway. This culture not only results in overproduction of clothing, but also encourages quick disposal of damaged garments, as opposed to mending them.
