Course Details

PPE is work equipment that protects the user against health or safety risks in the workplace. It includes helmets, gloves, footwear, eye protection, personal fall protection, safety harnesses, and anything else that is used to protect the user at work.

Employers have duties concerning the provision and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at work. This course is for those who have the responsibility of inspection and record keeping of your Personal Protective Equipment.

You must inspect your PPE before use to ensure it is safe for use, delegates will learn the skills necessary to inspect their PPE and record their inspection and findings in accordance with the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992.

This course is a mix of theory and practical with full participation by the course candidates.

  • Course introduction – previous use of PPE, experience, and knowledge.
  • MHSWR (Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999).
  • How often should we record our findings (dependent on your risk assessment)?
  • BS EN standards and testing.
  • Collective and individual safety control requirements when inspecting PPE on site.
  • PPE manufacture types.
  • Inspection of your PPE before use.
  • Manufacturing guidelines.
  • Maintenance records of your PPE.
  • Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992.
  • Identification of the components parts of selected PPE.
  • Markings of your fall protection equipment.
  • General use and the safety precautions that must be followed when fitting and using your personal protective equipment.
  • Who is responsible for inspecting your PPE?
  • How often should we inspect our PPE?
  • Procedures to be followed when disposing of faulty PPE. 
  • Practical assessment on inspection.
  • Recording procedures and documentation.
