This course covers the principles of photovoltaic electrical energy production, emphasizing system design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting for solar photovoltaic power systems.
This course covers the principles of photovoltaic electrical energy production, emphasizing system design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting for solar photovoltaic power systems.
Through hands-on experiences, students will become proficient in various aspects of real-time PV production systems such as Schneider conventional string inverters, Sol-Ark hybrid inverters, Enphase micro-inverters, and SolarEdge DC optimizer systems.
Practical lab sessions will take place at the BCIT Burnaby campus Electrical Training Centre, building SE1, providing students opportunities to install Photovoltaic systems in strict accordance with Canadian Electrical Code requirements, manufacturer specifications, and supply authority protocols.
Students will also have the chance to explore BCIT Microgrid - OASIS project and learn to estimate energy production, review site-specific documents, and create implementation strategies for grid-tie and off-grid photovoltaic systems. Safety risk management will be covered as well.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Since 1964, the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has taught and trained experts, professionals, and innovators who shape our economy—across BC and around the world. We are proud to deliver an education that goes beyond textbooks and classrooms.
Our students gain the technical skills, real-world experience, and problem-solving ability needed to embrace complexity and lead innovation in a rapidly changing workforce.
Through close collaboration with industry, our network of alumni and partners continue to achieve global success. Our leadership empowers our people and guides us toward our goals.
We have a shared vision:
A strategy to drive us from our origins through to the future. The decisions we make and policies we implement help us achieve this vision.
Upon completion of the program, the students will have a good understanding of solar energy fundamentals, site surveys, and pre-planning.
Our mission is to empower our dealers with the tools they need to become successful.
Learn about energy solutions such as renewable technology, sustainability, conservation and demand side management.
You’ll examine the influence of environmental policy and economic factors on the feasibility of solar energy systems and learn how to evaluate applicable technologies in various load-displacement scenarios.
Learn about the mechanÂics of solar powÂer genÂerÂaÂtion and the techÂniÂcal aspects of its inteÂgraÂtion into powÂer grids.
