The MSc International Events Management was designed to meet the sector's demand for talented, capable practitioners and will prepare you for a successful career in events management at home or abroad. It enables you to develop your practical, strategic and conceptual understanding of the events sector within local, national and international contexts.

As events are increasingly recognised as a tool for stimulating economic development, the industry is quickly professionalising and requires a growing number of graduates to form an educated, critically informed workforce. The MSc in International Events Management is designed to meet this demand by producing critically informed, operationally capable events practitioners.

UWS's School of Business & Creative Industries is a full member of both the Association of Professional Conference Organisers and National Outdoor Events Association. These associations are concerned with developing and enhancing the professional status of conference and event organisers.

Career Prospects

  • This programme has been designed in consultation with industry partners to ensure that graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in this exciting global industry.
  • Graduates may find employment in business events, festivals and cultural events, global mega-events, sporting events, community events and charity/cause related events. The transferable nature of the skills and knowledge gained throughout the programme has also enabled previous graduates to careers in related fields such as tourism, marketing and PR.

Course details

  • Our modules cover subject areas that are core to the management of practical and critical issues in events. The modules immerse students into the policy and politics in events, issues related to branding, and equips them with skills on critical inquiry and research.
  • They are delivered using traditional lecture content, recorded conversation with practitioners, policy makers or guest academics and via tutorials or workshops.  We will make use of a variety of teaching tools including case studies, student-led presentations, discussion tasks and practical activities designed to enable students to take responsibility for their own learning and develop a rounded understanding of the subject matter.
  • Students are assessed by applying a range of practically-focused assignments, including written reports, case studies, portfolios, presentations and other assessment formats which will replicate the types of practice graduates will be expected to undertake in their typical working life upon completion of the programme.

You will study the following modules in the programme:

  • Digital Branding (core, 20 credits)
  • Critical Event Studies (core, 20 credits)
  • Creative Research (core, 20 credits)
  • Politics and Policy in Events and Tourism (core, 20 credits)
  • Practical Issues in Events (core, 20 credits)

You will also complete an additional 20 credits from a list of option modules. Suggested module options include:

  • Content and Media Management (optional, 20 credits)
  • Digital Marketing Theory (optional, 20 credits)
  • Future Marketing & Transformational Tech (optional, 20 credits)

Successfully completing the PgDip allows you to proceed to the master's dissertation where you’ll complete one of the following:

  • Marketing, Events and Tourism Dissertation (core MSc, 60 credits)
  • Developing Professional Practice Project (core MSc, 60 credits)
