Description
Four weeks of learning custom quilting techniques, 16 hours of custom quilting classes in person!
This free motion class can be taken by any skill level, from the beginner to the expert. In this class you will learn the fundamentals of custom quilting design and techniques, as well as master techniques which will aid you in your quilting journey. You will be learning from Master Quilter, Eva Ellison. This class will hold each student accountable for the work that they do and everyone will share their work each week.
You will spend one afternoon every week learning new techniques, practice drawing designs, and practice quilting these designs on our APQS longarm machines. You can then transfer these skills to your own machine. Each week you will need to dedicate some personal time to drawing and practicing what you lean so that you can build muscle memory. After each week’s lesson, the following week you will bring in your drawing or quilting samples for a quick review with the class.
You only need to bring a sketchpad and your favorite drawing utensil. We will provide you with all other materials needed for the in-person learning. Over 100 pages of training documentation, as well as the designs required to complete this course.
Class Overview:
Week One: Fundamental quilting designs. Building blocks for most quilting shapes.
Week Two: Feathers, stems, feathers in blocks, borders and various shapes.
Week Three: Finding your quilting path. Moving through various quilt blocks without breaking thread.
Week Four: Even more custom quilting techniques such as background filler and ruler work.
Who Are We?
We are Double E Quilting, a family owned & operated small business located in Old Town Spring, TX. We offer our longarm quilting & longarm rental services to the greater Houston and surrounding area, and sell and service APQS machines along the Texas - Louisiana Gulf Coast.
Our team consists of Eva, her son and daughter-in-law, Patrick & Caitlyn and our shop dog Louise!
Eva has been quilting for more than 20 years and specifically quilting on a longarm since 2013, when she bought her APQS Millie. Like most quilters she started out on a domestic machine at her dining room table, and slowly expanded her skills to where she is today. She is a multi-award winning quilter, and the current Master Quilting Instructor for APQS Longarm Certification Course sponsored by Fons & Porter.
Her style has grown over the years to include everything from traditional to modern quilting. Eva has been serving Houston area quilters with her quilting services since 2015. When she’s not busy teaching or finishing a custom quilt, she is definitely drawing up new designs on her iPad!
Patrick joined the business in 2019 and it officially became “Double E Quilting”. Patrick has grown up around quilting his entire life, and has always had a passion for the arts. He has claimed himself to be, the best edge to edge quilter in the world, we’re working on getting the rest of the world to realize this. He has worked hard since joining the business to make us as efficient as possible, getting us to a “world renowned” (his words) 2 week turnaround time for edge to edge quilts.
Having the knack for taking things apart at a young age, to his engineering background, he makes for an expert technician. He and Eva are both APQS dealers and certified technicians for APQS. When he is not finishing edge to edge quilts or working on machines, you can usually find him with a camera in his hands, and a roll of film in his back pocket!
Caitlyn just recently graduated college, and has become the newest full time member of Double E Quilting. You’ve probably seen her marketing work across our website and social media. She has a passion for customer service and helping people, as well as having song lyrics and movie quotes stuck in her head. Having an eye for color and design she can certainly help make every quilt be a stand out. If she’s not at the store, she is probably re-watching her favorite movie for the thousandth time!
And lastly, you know her, you love her, resident “good girl” it’s Louise. Our permanent employee of the month! When you pull up, she’ll be sure to let everyone know she hears you. She has a passion for being lazy, long naps and barking at…well everything. You can usually find her curled up behind the front counter or laying down next to one of us. She is an old girl who loves her long weekends, but is always excited to start her “work week” and come to the store!
