Hi! I’m Jennifer Wiese, founder of Workroom Social, a sewing studio based in Brooklyn, New York. I believe that everyone can lead a joyful, creative, and confident life, and I know that sewing your own clothes.
And wearing these you-made clothes is a surefire way to find joy, creativity, and confidence every day. I'm on a mission to build communities, stimulate creativity, and build self-esteem by empowering our students to sew clothes they're proud to wear.
When in doubt, start at the very beginning. This course is designed to give novice stitchers a comprehensive foundation in machine sewing. Students will graduate with the skills they need to make a project from start to finish, and will gain the confidence to begin tackling anything.
This introduction to the sewing machine is a “crash course” on determining if your child feels comfortable with the idea of sewing. Before you (the Parent) invest in sewing classes, let your child “practice” on cutting and sewing a simple project. We go over basic sewing “safety rules”.
A Needle N Thread is your quilting lounge, so we’re here to adapt to your needs. Whether at a beginner or advanced level, our goal is to help you improve your technique and grow your love of sewing.
Sewing with zippers really isn’t that scary— we promise! In this class, you’ll learn a variety of ways to install zippers in your work by making different kinds of zipper pouches. You can never have too many zipper pouches (and they make great gifts)!
GTK is a 2.5 hour class to familiarize yourself with how sewing machines work: turning it on, threading the machine and bobbin, learning the basic stitches and functions and how to care for it. In the process we will make one standard size pillowcase!
