SEW Hut was opened for business in 1982 by Harriet E. McLaughlin, a gracious store owner who was always kept a pot of coffee brewing and was more than happy to share her sewing knowledge with all who wished to learn.
Today, Harriet's daughter, Ingrid, carries on her mother's tradition of down-home service. She strives to maintain a welcoming and supportive store environment where sewing enthusiasts of all skill levels feel right at home, whether they're shopping, socializing, or learning.
Students will build on that tradition by learning fundamental seams and finishes used in modern-day garment construction. Industry standards of sewing are emphasized and all techniques are taught and practiced.
Fun and functional, our classic cotton tote bags are perfect for carrying it all! Tote size can be larger or smaller than pictured.
Sewing is an invaluable skill that anyone can and should learn! Whether you want to learn how to repair a torn piece of clothing, sew drapery or just want a creative outlet, sewing fulfills all of these purposes. It’s a lifelong lesson that you’ll always appreciate having.
The first step in learning how to sew is learning how to use the sewing machine. We teach on any make and model of machine. Our goal is for our students to be comfortable on their sewing machine so they can sew better! This class will be limited to one student.
Our classroom is for rent for groups wanting to sit n sew.
