If you’ve never touched a sewing machine, this class is for you! Learn to use a sewing machine in a friendly and welcoming environment while making a super cool and useable reversible tote bag!
During this class, we’ll work together to learn the very basics of using a sewing machine. We will set it up, learn some basic stitches, and make our bags together. Students will leave with a booklet of everything we learned as well as a new empowering skill! Hooray!
Students may bring their own machine or use ours. All materials provided. No experience required!
If you want to bring your own fabric: please bring four 14”x16” pieces of woven (non-stretchy) fabric!
Our Story
Throughout history, people of all genders and ages have used sewing as a means to connect, fight oppression, and record histories that were being left out of the public conscience. By putting thread and fabric together, we can continue the legacy of quilting, sewing, and textile art and the strength it has to empower individuals and communities.
Sincere Studio views the legacies of cultural institutions such as the Freedom Quilting Bee and the AIDS Quilt as important parts of American history as well as amazing examples of the power of sewing and community.
Sincere Studio was founded by Frances Andonopoulos. A Chicago-native, Frances now lives in Portland OR with their dog Jelly.
Frances learned to make quilts ten years ago and has a passion for bringing people together to share space, ideas, and skills.
Frances is also the artist behind We Love You and We Miss You, the fentanyl memorial quilt.
