Course Details

This course is perfect for those who have never sewn before or those who need a refresher on the sewing machine.

In this 3-day series, you will learn about the parts and accessories of the sewing machine and how to properly wind the bobbin, thread the machine, and check stitch tension.

To ensure that you come out of the course confident with stitching, you will make three Lockstitch & Lustre projects packed with sewing techniques! In the first session, the projects are a catch-all and a hexagon fabric tray; the second project is a pieced envelope pillowcase; and the third project is a choice between a daypack, a courier bag, or an asymmetrical zippered clutch.

 

Bring with you to class and materials for each class:

  • Sewing machine, if you’re not renting one of our domestics
  • Empty bobbin (size is class 15 if you’re renting)
  • Fabric scissors
  • Fabric marker or fabric chalk
  • Seam gauge
  • Pins
  • Seam ripper
  • Thread snips

 

CLASS 1 - Catch-All and Hexagon Tray

  • 1 fat quarter (21” wide x 18” tall) cotton woven fabric for exterior
  • 1 fat quarter cotton woven fabric for interior
  • 1/3 yd of cotton batting
  • Coordinating all-purpose thread

 

CLASS 2 - Pieced Envelope Pillowcase (for standard 20" x 28" pillow)

Below amounts makes one pillowcase.  

  • 3/4 yd main fabric (woven cotton fabrics)
  • 1/3 yd fabric for cuff sides
  • 1/4 yd fabric for cuff middle
  • Coordinating all purpose polyester thread

 

CLASS 3, Option A – Courier Bag

  • 1 1/2 yd of cotton woven fabric for exterior and straps
  • ¾ yd of cotton woven fabric for lining
  • 2 1/4 yd of Pellon 809 Decor Bond fusible interfacing
  • Coordinating all purpose thread
  • 2 magnetic snaps

 

CLASS 3, Option B - Day Pack

  • 7/8 yd of cotton woven fabric for exterior and flap
  • 1 ¼ yds for cotton woven fabric for lining and straps
  • 1 ¼ yd of fusible fleece
  • 7/8 yd of Pellon 809 Decor Bond fusible interfacing
  • Coordinating all purpose thread
  • 1 or 2 magnetic snaps

 

CLASS 3, Option C – Asymmetrical Clutch

  • 1/2 yd of cotton woven fabric for exterior
  • 1/2 yd of cotton woven fabric for lining
  • 7/8 yd of Pellon 809 Decor Bond fusible interfacing
  • 18” all purpose zipper
  • Coordinating all purpose thread
