Course Objectives:

The roles of a coach and a mentor are seen as critical to the success of apprenticeship programmes with more experienced members of the workforce supporting the development of those with less experience.

This one-day training course is designed to equip those attending with the knowledge to support the implementation of coaching and mentoring in the workplace. The day is suitable for those involved in Learning and Development functions, managers, team leaders, and mentors themselves.

The course will be delivered through a blended approach of classroom tutorial, group discussion, practical exercises, and personal reflection.

Course Outline:

At the end of the session each delegate will be able to:

  • Explain the role of a workplace coach

  • Explain the role of a workplace mentor

  • Describe how coaching and mentoring can be applied in the workplace

  • Describe how teaching, learning and assessment fit into the role of the coach/mentor

  • Describe observation and feedback techniques used in coaching and mentoring

  • Develop an action plan to implement coaching and mentoring in the workplace
