People with high emotional intelligence are aware of their emotions and can manage feelings, impulses, communicate effectively with others, solve problems, and build rapport in tense situations. Emotionally smart individuals remain optimistic in the face of adversity, bounce up quickly from setbacks and strive to perform.
SWPP+ was designed by Food Processing Skills Canada to bring together food and beverage manufacturing industry employers, students, and post-secondary school stakeholders for quality work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities.The program provides employers with wage subsidies to hire post-secondary students for paid work placements and students in turn benefit with quality work experience so they can secure employment in their chosen fields of study.
Many students return for permanent positions with the company after completion of their studies.SWPP+ is supported by partners in industry and education — colleges, universities, polytechnics and Collège d'enseignement general et professionnel (CEGEP) — to deliver the following:
Provide wage subsidies to employers that offer quality student work placements.
Create recruitment opportunities to match students to the right placements.
Convene educators and employers to help align PSE curricula to the skills needs of industry.
Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to describe and use EQ strategies to connect with people at a personal and emotional level

Emotional intelligence (EI), also known as emotional quotient (EQ), is the ability to identify and manage emotions in oneself and others. Developing EQ in teams can improve performance, communication, management, and relationships within the workplace.
A strong foundation of emotional intelligence helps leaders assess their own behaviour and their workplace culture through an emotional intelligence lens and provides strategies to ensure that the emotional intelligence and well-being of employees and team members are suitably protected.
