This course is designed for people who have no / very little experience of using a sewing machine, or who need to update their skills. It will cover how to thread up a machine, joining two pieces of fabric using different seams, turning corners and button holes.
There will be the opportunity to have a “play”, experimenting with different stitches. It will allow you to familiarise yourself with the machines used by Happy Hare, enabling you to go on and enrol on one of our other sewing classes.
All materials will be provided.
Tea, coffee, soft drinks and homemade cake are included.
Happy Hare have been making and selling handmade craft items for around the last five years. We now have premises, so we are able to offer a range of fabrics, suitable for dressmaking and patchwork, and most of the other bits and pieces you will need to get you started on your projects.
We can chat through how classes work and what projects you will sew. Once you are ready to start, we’ll check availability and book you in to your first machine sewing class! Classes run Wednesdays to Fridays with limited space on Saturdays.
If you are stuck on the sewing project or you need some 1-to-1 tuition in a specific area to help improve your skills you can choose an individual class (suitable for 1 or 2 people) and help to build your confidence.

This class is for absolute beginners to dressmaking and sewing. You will discover how to use the sewing machine, make seams and understand pattern instructions. If you have a machine of your own please feel free to bring it with you to learn on.
This is a great introduction into the leather accessories making process and will help you develop essential sewing skills. To start, you will learn how to identify different types of sewing machines both industrial and domestic and have an understanding of what each type of machine is used for.
