Description
This class is for the novice who wants to make a simple quilt to test the waters and see if quilting is right for them. The first class covers basic tools and rotary cutting, reading a pattern and sewing a simple block using a quarter-inch seam. In the second class, students will continue their patchwork skills by learning how to assemble blocks in rows and how to attach a simple border. In the third class, students will sandwich their quilt and learn “stitch in the ditch” quilting. And in the final class, students will trim and bind their quilt.
About Us
Welcome to the Scissortail Quilting website, where love is worth a thousand stitches!
I’m Maria Gee, the quilter behind Scissortail Quilting.
I’m absolutely crazy about quilts! Quilting brings me so much joy, and this website is how I try to spread that joy to others. Whether it’s sharing quilt designs or offering some quilting know-how, I’m here to help you on your quilting journey.
I’ve worn a few hats in my life — from teaching mathematics to my current position as a full-time Graphic Designer. But all the roads eventually led me to discover quilting in 2011. As I embarked on my very first quilting project, I knew deep in my heart that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It was the perfect blend of design elements – everything I love (plus a little math thrown in for good measure!). I became completely immersed in the quilting world, even taking a part-time job at a quilt shop just to soak up as much knowledge about the industry as possible.
But even though I caught on to quilting fairly quickly, it wasn’t always smooth sailing. I did face my fair share of conundrums along the way. Thankfully, I had an incredible mentor, Miss Emma, who guided me and shared invaluable tips. She taught me the importance of checking my 1/4″ seam, nesting my seams, organizing scraps, and even how to save money on quilting supplies. Most importantly, Miss Emma instilled in me the value of sharing with and learning from fellow quilters. She showed me that taking classes to improve my skills was an investment I would never regret.
We all need a Miss Emma in our lives, don’t we? And maybe that’s why you’re here right now. If so, it would be my absolute honor to be your Miss Emma. Whether you have a conundrum, need specific information but can’t find it, or just want some good old quilting advice, please reach out to me. I would be more than happy to assist you in any way I can.
I’d love nothing more than to stay in touch with you. Join my email list, and every now and then I’ll send you some fantastic quilting info directly to your inbox. Let’s continue our quilting adventure together!
With love and stitches,
Maria Gee
