In this course, participants will learn the recent research and science on the impact of trauma on child development, and the implications for professionals who work in the residential care setting.
In this course, participants will learn the recent research and science on the impact of trauma on child development, and the implications for professionals who work in the residential care setting. In addition, participants will be introduced to Trauma Informed Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports (TI-PBIS) programme that KVC Health Systems has developed to create a positive and supportive environment that provides structure, education and motivation for children to learn new pro-social and effective behaviours.
Participants will learn how TI-PBIS provide evidence-based approaches to reduce the frequency of disruptive behaviour in children and young persons, while helping to build routines and practices that can be used by all team members within a residential care setting.
Most importantly, participants will learn and have a chance to apply how different TI-PBIS tools are used within the residential care setting to help children and young persons learn adaptive behaviours that help them regulate emotions and have positive social connections.

Relate the impact of trauma on the development of children and young persons
Apply appropriate emotional regulation strategies to help children and young persons to manage their emotions
Demonstrate understanding of TI-PBIS programme in the support of children and young persons
Identify the different functions of behaviour observed in children and young persons using the ABC model
Apply intervention and support practices to promote positive behaviour in children and young persons.
