The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to an extensive network of connected physical devices, from home appliances to vehicles, in which sensors are embedded to communicate data about the device to a cloud computing platform.

It is especially known for its application in ‘smart home’ automation, augmenting the lives of humans with increased convenience and interaction with their environment.
