We offer English classes at various levels as well as a wide range of other languages, typically including Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Mandarin, Italian, Korean, Russian, Japanese and more on offer.
Our classes usually run for 10 weeks, taking place once a week on campus.
About Us
Our Story
The idea for the International Society arose back in 1966 when Eva Auerbach, a Chaplain at the University of Manchester, felt there was a need for an independent organisation to provide welfare and social support to international students.
Under the direction of Ms Anna Ford the Society was founded. From small beginnings of less than a hundred members we now have around 6,000 members from over 130 countries each year.

The International Society is a unique one of a kind, independent charity based in Manchester that has been celebrating cultural diversity and promoting global friendship for over 56 years.
We aim to provide international students with a warm and friendly welcome when they arrive in the city and to make their time in the UK a wonderful experience. Our activities including trips, classes, events, activities and volunteering opportunities are open to all.
While the majority of the Society’s members are international and British students studying at the universities and colleges in the city, many are people who have come to live and work in the UK, or members of the community interested in meeting people from all over the world. The Society is family-friendly and people of all ages get involved.
Italian Language Course is Offered by Southsea Language School.
Our Italian language training can be adjusted to any ability level, can be designed to target specific corporate skills, and can be set to a pace suitable for your team.When you get in touch with us, one of our team will contact you to discuss your learners’ purpose for learning Italian.
Our dedicated Italian tutor can help you to master a new language, whatever your starting level. Whether you want to take an test, prepare for life abroad or simply find your way around on holiday we can tailor our courses to help you achieve your aims.
Cooking Together evenings are as much about chatting and relaxing as they are about learning and eating – the perfect blend of meal out and cookery class, we call it sociable foodie fun. One ticket is for 2 people, and you will cook your meal together.
Italy is one of the most visited countries in the world and for many reasons. From spectacular landscapes to stunning architecture (and the most UNESCO sites in the world!), you’ll be in awe in every place you visit.
