What you will learn?

You will learn the following theory:

  • Introduction to work at height.
  • Work at height definitions.
  • Legislation regarding work at height.
  • Understanding on-site risk assessments.
  • Appropriate equipment care and pre-use climbing inspection methods.
  • Identification and use of climbing equipment.
  • Limitations of climbing equipment.
  • Limitations of safe anchoring points.
  • Managing sharp edges.
  • The advantages of a buddy system.
  • Basic knowledge of vertical and horizontal lifelines.
  • Basic knowledge of rigging vertical lifelines.
  • Knowledge of lifelines.
  • Minimum free space areas.
  • Fall factors.
  • The use of various fall arrest knots.
  • Suspension trauma.
  • The buddy rescue.
  • Correct completion of a rope access logbook.
  • Knowledge of Fallprotec Vertical System.
  • Knowledge of Fallprotec Securail systems.

 

You will gain the following practical skills:

  • Assemble a rope access kit.
  • Perform pre-use climbing equipment inspections.
  • Rope coiling/bagging.
  • Select safe anchoring points.
  • Implement the buddy system.
  • Making and using various rope access knots.
  • Use of a rope access work seat.
  • Climbing over the edge of a building.
  • Rigging double working ropes.
  • Perform various rope access maneuvers:
    10.1   Ascending ropes.
    10.2  Descending ropes.
    10.3  Traversing a loop.
    10.4  Traversing a re-belay.
    10.5  Rope to rope transfers (long and short).
    10.6  Descending over the edge.
    10.7  Deviation.
    10.8  Vertical and horizontal aiding.
  • Rescue from a loaded backup device – self-rescue.
  • Snatch rescue from a descending device – buddy rescue.
  • Safe use of Fallprotec Vertical System.

 

Qualifications and reward

  • Upon successful completion of this course, you will gain the following

  • Designation: Rope Access Technician
  • A certificate that is valid for 3 years
  • NQF Level 1- Credits: 2
    • SAQA ID: US229998
    • SAQUA Title: Explain and perform fall arrest techniques when working at height
  • NQF Level 2- Credits: 6
    • SAQA ID: US230000
    • SAQUA Title: Perform a limited range of rope access tasks and rescues

 

Entry Requirements?

  • Certified copy of your ID or passport (the original please). Unfortunately, your driver’s license will not be accepted
  • A copy of a valid medical certificate provided by a suitable healthcare provider (doctor) that shows you are cleared to do rope access training and have no underlying health issues that prevent you from doing rope access training
  • You must be 18 years or older, able to comprehend, read and write English. You must also have basic numeracy skills
