The CALA approach to learning languages focuses on high-frequency vocabulary—the words, phrases, expressions, and grammar that you are most likely to encounter in day-to-day life. We go narrow-and-deep with this vocabulary.
Competencies
CALA courses foster a "whole language" classroom environment wherein students and the instructor constantly communicate with each other in real-time. Participants are exposed to grammar naturally in a communicative context rather than "taught grammar points" explicitly.
Japanese Part 1
With a primacy on oral communication, the writing system of Japanese Parts 1-2 is NOT covered.
Japanese Part 2
(Reinforcement and expansion of all Part 1 competencies PLUS:)
Welcome to CALA: The Center for Accelerated Language Acquisition! We are the official language training center of the University Honors College at Middle Tennessee State University.
Our classes are based on brain research. So, if you want to learn Spanish fast and easy, this is the way! Don’t worry. We also offer French language classes, as well as Chinese, German, and more.
At CALA, we use methods like TPR (Total Physical Response) and TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling). What does that mean? It means our accelerated classes are engaging, natural, and a fun language-learning experience!
Believe it or not, CALA also offers unique yoga classes for stress management. Because you learn so much better when you’re happy! While we do offer classes throughout the year, most of them are during the summer. So, if you’re looking for some summer fun in Tennessee, CALA is the place to be!
And if you’re a teacher who wants to learn these advanced techniques to use in the classroom (for all ages!), we also offer a methodology course.
Our Japanese language lessons, taught by our skilled native instructors, are designed to build conversational skills.
With a Strommen teacher you will speak Japanese on the first class. A private session is more effective, efficient and convenient than enrolling in a group class.
At the end of the course students should be able to express regret, positive and negative requirements, chronological order of events, conditions, giving and receiving of objects and favors, and to ask and give advice.
Japanese course is offered by Austin Community College’s Official World Languages Department (WOLA).
We offer Japanese classes for all levels of students, and take pride in providing L.A.'s premier Japanese instruction, with highly educated, native-speaking Japanese teachers and university texts.
