Such as the pronunciation, basic grammar and basic vocabulary, in understanding and communicating in Japanese. We will also talk about Japanese culture with a different topic (food, lifestyle, tradition, travel, history, etc.) each week.
Each U3A is a community organisation that promotes healthy ageing by sharing educational, creative, leisure activities provided by their own members. We ask for no qualifications for membership and we award no degrees or diplomas.
Our teachers are native speakers, brilliant Educators and are amazing at connecting with, and inspiring their students. We explore many of the cultural elements of Japan including their many temples, their beautiful gardens, their money, rice and using chopsticks, Japanese fans and masks.
In standards and content, courses are comparable to those offered in day school language classes, and follow a standard course design. Our face to face classes for students in Prep-12 are held out of school hours in metropolitan and country/regional Centres of the VSL.
Learning Japanese is beneficial to anyone interested in doing business with Japan or for travel.  While you don't need to be fluent, you'll have a much easier time making your way around if you can communicate. Plus, the Japanese people will appreciate your effort to learn their language.
Level 1 classes are Beginner language classes - no prior learning is expected or catered for. You will learn how to speak, write and read and have the opportunity to continue on to Level 2 in the following term.
In this course you will learn how to read and write Japanese Hiragana and Katakana and basic skills to get you on the way to speaking Nihongo!
