Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is a vital part of Safe Job Planning. We’ve all heard the adage “Fail to plan; plan to fail”. Successful businesses plan and communicate how work tasks will be accomplished before work starts.
Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is a vital part of Safe Job Planning. We’ve all heard the adage “Fail to plan; plan to fail”. Successful businesses plan and communicate how work tasks will be accomplished before work starts. Performing a JSA identifies hazards associated with the work and helps decision makers decide what controls will be implemented in order to protect the health and safety of the workers and accomplish the work tasks as efficiently as possible.
Performing a JSA creates discussion. It helps employers walk through the steps of a job and make plans for implementation of controls including: training, equipment availability, safe work procedures and supervision. This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to perform a comprehensive JSA that takes into account the hazards of the job, the likelihood and severity of potential injury, and appropriate controls to eliminate or mitigate the hazards.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
Identify when a written JSA would be appropriate
Describe the key elements of a JSA
Determine risk factors using a likelihood/severity matrix
Identify appropriate controls to mitigate or eliminate risk factors
Explain the hazard pathway
Explain the hierarchy of controls
Explain the classification of hazards and the primary methods of control
Identify Hazardous energies and explain primary control methods
Identify routes of entry for chemically toxic and biological agents and explain primary control methods.
Describe the elements of a Job Safety Analysis and discuss how it can be used to develop a Safe Work Plan that Recognizes the hazards, Accesses the hazards, Controls or eliminates the hazards and Evaluates the results (RACE).
Safetywerx is a safety training and consulting company dedicated to reducing incidents, injuries, illness and fatalities in Ontario Workplaces. We work toward this goal by providing comprehensive solutions that promote healthy safety culture and are based on the principles of the Internal Responsibility System.
This class requires “Adult Learning Theory” (provided by Made Safe) as a prerequisite. Forklift incidents can cause significant injuries and deaths as well as extensive property damage.
Confined spaces can restrict a worker’s ability to safely enter, exit, and work inside them for long periods of time.
This is a one-day program that is designed for all workers, supervisors, managers, engineers and health and safety committee members.
This course discusses the hazards associated with operating forklifts (lift trucks or fork lift trucks), and includes a review of: Equipment, material, environmental, and process hazards The responsibilities of employers, supervisors and workers.
The Aerial Work Platform Training course includes Scissor Lift, Boom Lift, zoom booms, articulating platform lifts, and WAVE Lifts. The attendees will go through Theory, written tests, pre-operational inspection checklists, and practical evaluations.
