Our style focuses on building a strong foundation through kihon exercises and kata training. When Sasaki Sensei created Chidokan, he borrowed and developed a number of techniques and exercises that are a fairly unique to our style.

Karate is a Japanese martial art yet it has a rich history. Karate’s roots are believed to have originated in India, and these martial arts teachings were spread into China and then finally on to Okinawa, islands off the south coast of mainland Japan.
In the early 1900’s Japan absorbed the Okinawan Te and created the beginings of modern day Karate-Do. There are many different styles of Karate and countless more schools and training dojos, but all generally follow the same precepts or rules.
Shotokan Karate-Do is one of three main styles of Karate and was introduced to the world by Gichin Funakoshi during the early 1900′s. Funakoshi is considered the Grandfather of modern day karate as he was instrumental in introducing karate to the the Western world.
The program encourages adult participation and interaction aimed at developing essential social skills as well as family interaction. The class is 30 minutes in length on a matted surface, led by an experienced martial arts instructor.
For children aged from 4 to 6 years, our “Little Ninjas” program builds discipline and concentration in your children. Each class focuses on developing physical, emotional & social skills through karate games and activities.
Our kids karate classes ensure children at similar stages are grouped together to build their confidence, discipline and to ensure they’re having the most fun possible.
Karate course is offered by Melbourne Hapkido Academy. Martial arts were developed and practised during this time, primarily for the protection of the royalty/nobles and were also practised by Buddhist monks.
Mini Karate is a karate-based program that caters to children as young as 3. Developed to be age-appropriate, engaging and fun, Mini Karate is an introduction to Martial Arts and the long-term benefits that can be gained through the study and practice of Karate & other Martial Arts.
