A fun and creative course! Whether you are an absolute beginner or for those already in love with sewing, the course will focus on encouraging individual work. The Bronte Sewing Room is a great space for creative learners.
The cost for our after school classes is for an 8 week term ( the middle 8 weeks of each Public School Term )
You will need to bring
For after school classes we do not expect you to bring your own machine along after school - we have a number of machines available for use.
We provide most materials and equipment but if your child decides to make something which uses a lot of fabric (eg. pyjama pants) we may ask you to buy your own fabric.
Feel free to bring your own sewing kit if you have one but it's not necessary. Please make sure your child either wears or brings a pair of closed-in shoes (eg. sneakers) for safety reasons.
We do not offer snacks - just plenty of fresh filtered water so please make sure your child has something to eat if they are coming straight from school to keep their energy levels up!
The Bronte Sewing Room is set in a relaxed, contemporary space where classes are offered to all levels by friendly and experienced teachers. If you have never picked up a needle and thread before or even if you are an accomplished sewer, The Bronte Sewing Room will welcome you.
If you're a complete newbie or have some basic sewing skills but don't feel confident enough to tackle your own projects, we offer two learn to sew courses that will get you started. If you want to use a commercial pattern, Basic Dressmaking is for you.
All classes are mixed free choice which means you can receive tuition on the project of your choice on any date listed. For example I may have 1 person making a quilt, 2 others learning basic sewing and another making cushions. I have taught this way for many years and it works well for my student...
Come join us for a Sit and Sew session! Bring your latest project or start a new one in a friendly and relaxed environment. Sew with other keen crafters and enjoy our beautiful creative space.
In this course you create a skirt block to fit you individually, and put it on card for future use as a starting point for all your skirt designs. Then you design and make your own skirt. You learn a few major design elements and how to insert these into your block to create new designs.
We love inspiring you to be creative – so whether you're a total beginner, looking to refresh your skills, have your heart set on making a beautiful quilt, a great bag or even a handmade wardrobe we're sure to have a workshop just for you.
