Course Description
This module is mapped against A1 level in Korean according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It is for absolute beginners or students with very limited knowledge of the language.
No previous knowledge of Korean is required. Students will develop a very basic competence in reading, writing, listening and speaking Korean and an understanding of basic Korean grammar. At the end of this module students will have reached a low A1 proficiency level in the CEFR and will be able to carry out very simple everyday tasks in Korean.
They will be able to introduce themselves and others and ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have.
They will be able to interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help. They will have a basic understanding of significant aspects of life and culture of the country and intercultural skills necessary for their language proficiency level.

This 20 week course will introduce some of the basic structures of the language through topics related to social and everyday life in the country/countries where it is spoken. The focus is on listening, speaking and reading simple materials that introduce basic grammatical structures.
This semester the Language Centre will be offering over 80 classes in 14 different languages. Classes range from Beginners to Post A level and are available in Korean. This semester we will have both online and in person teaching.Â
