The L3 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is aimed at those who feel that they do not need a full 3 day First Aid at Work course and just want to cover the essentials.
Course Information
First Aid in the Workplace is absolutely vital, and an invaluable life skill for any individual or team. Although the provision of appropriate First Aid at Work cover is a legal requirement, employers do not need to ensure that every single member of staff is fully qualified.
However, we find that in many businesses it is prudent to ensure that every team member has at least knowledge of the basics of emergency First Aid.
The L3 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is designed for people who feel that they do not need a full 3 day First Aid at Work course.
Course Contents
We are happy to adapt our training to meet your particular needs within the constraints of the EFAW syllabus. Courses cover:
First Aid and the Law
Incident Management
Acting safely including prevention of cross-infection
Recording incidents
Safe use of First Aid equipment
Unconscious Casualty management including recovery position
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
AED usage
Seizures
Wounds & bleeds including tourniquets and Haemostatic dressings
Shock
Burns
Duration
The EFAW requires 6 hours of teaching time. This can be taught over one day; two half-days or evening sessions. Split courses attract an extra charge, and any breaks taken are in addition to the 6 hours. Please note that the course must be completed within 3 weeks of the start date.
Assessment
Assessment is in the form of practical exercises and a straightforward multiple choice paper, and candidates must pass both elements to qualify.
Please note that candidates must be able to perform exercises at floor level where required. It is a requirement of all regulated courses that the candidate should be able to communicate effectively with Emergency Services and, although this is not assessed formally, your instructor must be satisfied that this is the case. As such, all the question papers are in English and a reader will be provided if candidates have literacy concerns or learning difficulties.
Certification
Once qualified, the certificate is valid for 3 years, at the end of which candidates will need to attend a one-day EFAW to requalify. It is recommended by HSE that all first aiders should do an annual 3 hour refresher course to keep their skills up-to-date.
Numbers
We book a maximum of 12 people per trainer. Larger groups can be accommodated with additional trainers.
About Us
Meet the team that keeps the business running
Jeremy (the bald one) is of an age that he gets regular MOTs from the Doctors every couple of years and takes the role of lead trainer as well as managing the finances and, with Fiona & Freddie, plans the strategy and growth of the business.
He’s had a range of jobs as diverse as a lorry driver, multi-drop delivery driver, travel agent, Sales Manager for a holiday firm, IT consultant, bouncy castle operator, paintball site operator, mini-cab driver, publican and is a fully qualified teacher although has no intention of going into a school classroom which requires far more courage than he’s got.
Aside from teaching First Aid, he’s had extensive experience as an Event First Aider attending numerous events as diverse as Rugby Festivals to Village fetes and brings his practical knowledge to the classroom. Passionate about First Aid and its importance, he is of the firm belief that it should be taught in schools from a very early age.
Away from work, he is an avid reader with a broad range of tastes and is very much into airshows and loves aircraft, especially from the Second World War period. He has been known to get quite huffy when people muddle up a Spitfire & a Hurricane.
Fiona (the Boss) keeps the team on the straight and narrow and is the ideas department of the business. Like Jeremy, she’s had a varied career working as a Nurse, Medical Supplies buyer, Occupational Health nurse, childminder, a receptionist at an Osteopaths, First Aid Trainer, Event First Aider and, the most important job of all, raising their 4 children.
She used to run the office and managed the bookings for their paintball site and bouncy castle operation and was heavily involved in designing the bespoke castles they had. Fiona also ran her own cleaning business for a number of years.
As the training business has grown, she has taken on the role of managing our social media presence and carries out the internal quality assurance role, making sure that our trainers deliver the courses to the required standard.
She is very much the idea generator that keeps us driving forward. She tolerates Jeremy’s love of an airshow but is the first one to hear the sound of a Merlin engine!
Mandy joined us at the beginning of 2024 and is our Office Manager. She looks after the day-to-day running of the team as well as helping Fiona keep some of Jeremy’s not so wonderful ideas in check.
She has worked in a number of sectors over the years most recently as the Operations Manager for a team of financial advisors and hosts overseas students aged between 11 & 16.
Away from the office she has 3 children and kept busy entertaining her 5 grandchildren, enjoys sewing, mending things and gardening. She has a passion for art and loves to draw, sketch & paint. Her and her hubby enjoy travelling and exploring all over the UK and Europe, often doing this in their motorhome.
The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require all employers to make arrangements to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work.
The workshop is adapted to the needs of the candidates and the risks in your business. Please get in touch to discuss the topics you need to cover.
To ensure everyone present on your site is fully cared for in the event of an accident or medical emergency, we offer an intensive, three day Highfield First Aid at Work training course.
The Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course provides essential knowledge and skills necessary for responding to medical emergencies in the workplace. The contents of the course typically include:
During this 2 day course, candidates will have the opportunity to practise essential first aid procedures, as well as learn the latest techniques for dealing with emergency situations and managing injuries and illnesses in the workplace.
