This course has been designed for supervisors and operatives who regularly inspect, use and manage the safe use of ladders during the course of their work. This course teaches the required skills to carry out these tasks safely and in accordance with the ‘Working at Height’ Regulations. At the end of the course, delegates will be more aware of their responsibilities under current and new legislation and understand that accidents in most cases can be prevented.

Background: Falls from height and ladder accident statistics
Legislation: Working at Height Regulations, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, Management of Health and Safety Regulations, Health and Safety at Work Act
Working at Height: Risk assessment, hierarchy of control, alternative methods of work, Permits to work
Ladders: Ratings and load limits, selection of equipment, manufacturers instructions, pre- use checks, detailed inspections, reporting and isolation of defective equipment, extending and raising of ladders, safe working angles, securing of ladders, climbing/descending of ladders (3 point contact), stepladder do’s and don’ts
