This is a one-day surgical simulation workshop with the use of high-fidelity animal tissue models, focusing on laparoscopic hysterectomy and mesh sacrocolpopexy. This will be the first urogynaecology simulation course in the UK using high fidelity animal tissue models.
This is a one-day surgical simulation workshop with the use of high-fidelity animal tissue models, focusing on laparoscopic hysterectomy and mesh sacrocolpopexy. This will be the first urogynaecology simulation course in the UK using high fidelity animal tissue models.
This workshop represents a unique opportunity to participate in hands-on surgical techniques for advanced pelvic surgery, aimed at urogynaecologists. There is an international faculty of recognised experts in the field, who will be providing lectures as well as hands-on supervision.
Learning aims
This workshop aims to provide:
a general overview of the surgical procedures performed in laparoscopic urogynaecology for pelvic organ prolapse including meshless techniques
a step-by-step detailed approach for total laparoscopic hysterectomy and laparoscopic mesh sacrocolpopexy
hands-on training for the above procedures on high fidelity simulation models
Learning Outcomes
At the ends of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Describe the relevant anatomy, choose among different types of energy used in laparoscopic surgery, select appropriate mesh, discover common pitfalls, employ tips and tricks for the above procedures and give examples of alternative meshless techniques
Demonstrate laparoscopic suturing, including intracorporeal and extracorporeal knot tying and the advanced laparoscopic skills needed to perform the above procedures
Gain the confidence in order to perform the procedures in theatre
Highlights
Pelvic wall dissection anatomy- ureterolysis and uterine artery at the origin step by step (Prof Mohamed Mabrouk)
Hysterectomy step by step (Mr Alfred Cutner)
Hands-on practice on hysterectomy models
Mesh sacrohysteropexy step by step (Mr Matt Izett- Kay)
Mesh sacrocolpopexy step by step (Mr Arvind Vashisht)

Entry Requirements: Participants should be familiar with laparoscopic suturing and intracorporeal knot tying in simulation
Welcome to the UCLH Charity courses website
UCLH Charity is the official charity of University College London Hospitals (UCLH) NHS Foundation Trust, making a difference to patients, staff and research. We support the booking and payments system for a wide range of courses which are managed by individual departments and the education team at UCLH. For information about the courses, please contact the people listed in the course information.
Aim: The cadaver lab will be a training experience focused on you and your need, with a maximum of four trainees per cadaver (fresh frozen). This gives you a really focused opportunity to put into practice what you are learning during the course.
Explore the topic of urogynaecology, which is a sub speciality of gynaecology, and provides assessment, investigations and treatment for women with urinary incontinence, vaginal prolapse, recurrent urinary tract infections and more.
