Sri Ramakrishna preached equal validity of all religions on earth. Religions are parts of cultures; languages are expressions of cultures. The more refined a language, the more evolved is its culture. The study of languages which facilitate intercultural understanding is an important objective of the Institute.
The School of Languages offers Beginners’ and Advanced – Level certificate courses in 19 languages – 14 foreign and 5 indigenous to India. The School of Languages employs state-of-the-art techniques to teach languages including audio-visual methods and internet based VLE for distance education. The School also has a modern and well-stocked languages library for students.
Certificates are awarded after the completion of the senior course in each language. Also, Advanced certificate is awarded after the completion of the Advanced course. In addition, provisional certificates may be given for the elementary course on the basis of applications submitted.
The advent of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa is the starting point of the renaissance in India. Swami Vivekananda, the illustrious disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, gave the first impetus to it by starting the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897.
The Mission is endeavouring to realise its aims through its centres numbering more than two hundred in India and abroad. The Chennai centre is one of the oldest having been started in 1897.
The Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College is a unit of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Chennai, which is a branch centre of Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, West Bengal. It occupies a place of pre-eminence among the Educational Institutions of the Mission in India.
On an auspicious day of 21st June 1946, Swami Kailashanandaji Maharaj, the then President of Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai ceremoniously inaugurated the College.
In a public function held on 1st July 1946, the Professor, Philosopher, and President of India-to-be, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan dedicated the College to the cause of quality education with 20 teachers and 339 students.
In addition, provisional certificates may be given for the elementary course on the basis of applications submitted. Furthermore, 6-month communication courses are also offered in Latin. Appropriate information as well as entry and exit points for the above courses are available to students.
