This course is aligned to meet the specific outcomes of unit standard 120300, at NQF level 5 for 8 credits. It is the first topic in the Leadership Module of the National Certificate: Generic Management SAQA ID: 59201. The course covers the basics of leadership from definition to theories and application in a work context.

This course will enable learners to gain insight into the role of leadership within a work context, and thus providing them with the skills and knowledge to add value to one's job.

The qualifying learner is capable of:

  • Explaining the concept of leadership

  • Differentiating between leadership and management

  • Analysing and comparing leadership theories

  • Applying the different roles and qualities of leadership in a work context

 

Audience

This Unit Standard would suit anyone in a management position or who aspires to management or leadership in an organisation. 

It will be particularly useful to learners who are working within the Public Sector, Local Government, commercial or community environment.

 

Pre-Requisites

It is assumed that learners enrolling for this course are competent in Communication at NQF Level 4.  Evidence of this is required upon enrolment.

  • Servant Leadership Theory

Section 4: Applying the Roles and Qualities of Leadership in a Work Context

  • Analyze the leadership styles of 4 selected leaders to determine their effectiveness.

  • Applying leadership theory to your own work context.

  • One's own leadership roles, qualities and abilities are analysed to formulate your own leadership development strategy
