This class is for absolute beginners and people who wish to refresh and extend their sewing skills.You will learn sewing techniques and terminology , how to interpret and understand pattern instructions , how to use a machine , sizing ,choosing fabrics and much more.
This class is for absolute beginners and people who wish to refresh and extend their sewing skills.You will learn sewing techniques and terminology , how to interpret and understand pattern instructions , how to use a machine , sizing ,choosing fabrics and much more.
You will complete a simple item to get you going and become enthused to make individual garments / projects of your choice , e.g ; quilts,dress-ups , soft furnishings and accessories , toys , altering and individualising your creations.
All with group and individual tuition . At the end of the course you will have caught the " sewing bug " and have the skills to carry on on your own or return for a further term to sew with a group and an experienced tutor's guidance.

Pattern , choose from : Kwik Sew 3480 apron ,3597 bag ,or 3602 pj pants or other similar basic pattern.
Fabric and any requirements as listed on the back of the pattern. Scrap cotton fabric or calico to play around with. All fabrics should be pre-washed.
This course is supported by the TEC (Tertiary Education Commission) to assist with literacy and numeracy needs of students. You must attend 80% of the class. At the same time we hope you will learn other useful and interesting skills and have a lot of fun learning with us.

Learn how to sew in a day! We’ll cover basic sewing and machine techniques in this one-day workshop and you’ll take away a lined, patchwork tote bag. All materials provided but bring lunch and your machine* (or arrange to borrow one of ours).

If you know someone who wants to learn how to make quilts then I would appreciate their introduction. I take beginners on a one to one basis and coach them through the process from choosing their project to binding and labelling their quilt.
One-off 3 hour workshop will show you how to make your own bucket hat from fabric offcuts and repurposed clothing (ideal for old jeans!).
