There are about 200-250 reported and confirmed cases of Legionnaires' disease each year in England and Wales, however it is thought that the total number of cases may be vastly underestimated. About half of the cases are associated with travel abroad. The most often reported and serious cases are in the over 60s and these are the most likely to result in a fatality.

This course aims to provide learners with a good knowledge of the legionella bacteria, how it forms and how it leads to legionnaires disease. It examines the potential risks of different types of water systems and how duty holders can control these risks.

Poor management of water systems can cause serious exposure to the Legionella bacteria resulting in diseases that are fatal. It can also result in prosecution from such government organisation as the Health and Safety Executive.  This is a half day training course delivered in a classroom environment or via Video-conferencing.
