The qualification considers childcare and development from birth–5 years 11 months. It is aimed at learners, parents and volunteers wishing to participate in the provision made by early years environments, such as pre-schools.

To complete the Award, learners must achieve 6 credits. 5 credits must be achieved from the mandatory units and a further 1 credit must be achieved from the optional units.
