This course is for anyone with an interest in Sport who would like to study it further. It is part theory-based and part practical in nature and you will receive a Level 1 Introductory Diploma on completion. You will be expected to take part in sport as well as to write about the theory behind exercise and fitness.
What will I study?
The units you will study are likely to include:
Core Units: Being Organised Developing a Personal Progression Plan Working with Others Researching a Topic
Optional Units might include How Exercise Affects the Body Training for Fitness Playing Sport Coaching Skills in Sport Assisting in a Sports Activity Contributing to Running a Sports Event Getting People Active Keeping Active and Healthy
Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for you if you are interested in sport and wish to gain a Level 1 qualification.

Your Study Programme
If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can.
All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (C) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses). Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment.
You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.
Knowledge
You will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of:
How to ensure effective and efficient coaching systems, taking into consideration current health and safety, safeguarding, data protection and equality laws
How to measure the impact of coaching strategies
How to deliver inspirational sessions for children though tailored coaching and communication methods for maximum impact.
Skills
You will have the ability to:
Understand and promote the value of an entire coaching team, including support staff, coaches, coaching assistants, and volunteers
Deliver safe and effective coaching support to participants in practice, at events or competitions
Prepare for coaching sessions by organising resources, conducting event risk assessments and ensuring safe operation.

Entry Requirements for new students
Four GCSEs at Grade 2 or above or completion of Foundation Studies including English and maths GCSE at grades 1-3.
