DurationThis qualification is aimed at individuals wishing to apply for a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a security officer. This qualification is based on the relevant SIA specification for learning and qualifications and is supported by Skills for Security, the standards setting body for the security industry and the SIA, which regulates the private security industry.
How long will it take?
To complete this qualification learners should expect to undertake approximately 42 hours of learning. The SIA stipulates a minimum of 29 contact hours, it is delivered over 5 days including a first aid qualification on day one, with a large amount of pre-course reading and written tasks to complete. This Level 2 qualification permits individuals to work as security guards in the UK private security industry, leading to an SIA security guarding license.
The Upskilling course is aimed at all existing door supervisors who currently hold an SIA Door Supervisor Licence prior to June 2010 and wish to renew their SIA licence.
This qualification is designed for those learners who undertook their Security Officer qualification prior to March 2021. It allows them to meet their mandatory top-up requirements for Security Officer and to retain their SIA licence.
To work as a Door Supervisor or Security Guard in the UK you will need to have a licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).
It is an upskilling course and from 1st October 2021, it has become a mandatory requirement. The course covers ways to recognise terrorism as well as minimising personal risk for security officers.
