It also develops interpersonal skills, such as active listening, how to provide help to others, and when to get assistance in an emergency. The one-day course is advised for those who want to promote a mentally healthy work environment. You are not eligible to be a first aider for Mental Health.
Course overview
Duration
The Level 2 Award in Understanding Mental Health is a day course. The total qualification time is 7 hours and participants must complete the course within three weeks.
All 7 hours of the course are guided learning hours where you will learn about mental health illnesses in the workplace under the guidance of a trainer. There is no requirement for self-study outside of training hours.
Entry requirements
This qualification is for anyone aged 16 or over who wants to become a mental health first aider. Participants should have an interest in mind-related health issues and want to assist their colleagues while following relevant legislation and guidelines.
Methods of Assessment
The Level 2 Award in Understanding Mental Health qualification is assessed by a multiple-choice question paper. Participants have 25 minutes to complete the exam and should answer all questions. Scoring 10 out of 15 or more is a “pass.”
Certification
Successful candidates will receive a personalised Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Understanding Mental Health in the Workplace (RQF).
Modules breakdown
Participants begin by learning about mental health and its importance, both in the workplace and wider society. They then discuss what we mean by mental health and how it can be temporary, fluctuating or ongoing.
Learners learn about the roles of people associated with mental health and relevant legislation in the workplace. The course provides in-depth coverage of a range of mental health conditions followed by an explanation of MHFA England’s 5-step action plan, STOPS, a tool designed to assist people in psychological distress.
