About this course

This course helps learners to gain a deeper understanding of dementia, acquired brain injuries, sensory loss and their effects. It supports learners in adapting their communication style to meet the specific needs of individuals with dementia, cultivating empathy and patience and improving overall communication efficacy.

The modules promote self-reflection and the cultivation of interpersonal skills, fostering an environment conducive to personal growth. This training has been made possible thanks to Greater Manchester Combined Authority securing funding through the UKSPF fund.

What are the units/modules involved?

Core: Promote Communication in Care Settings Module

  • Understand the Process and Experience of Dementia Module

  • Understand the role of communication and interactions with individuals who have dementia. Module

  • Understand The Impact of Acquired Brain Injury on Individuals Module

  • Understand Sensory Loss

How will the course be delivered?

  • It will be delivered online with face-to-face observations.

How long does the course take?

  • It will take around 16 weeks to complete.

Who is eligible for this course?

  • Learners must either live OR work within Greater Manchester

  • Learners must be employed and actively involved in a care service.

  • Do not currently possess a Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care.

  • Learners should ideally have a minimum of Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy or equivalent

  • Learner must be aged 16 or above
