This course offers a good start for those wanting to apply for a job that involves teaching. To be fully qualified to teach (young) adults you need to complete the level 5 Diploma in Education and Training / Cert Ed or PGCE. The Level 3 Award in Education and Training provides an excellent introduction to this course.
What will I be learning?
The course will be taught by an experienced teacher, who will use a wide range of teaching activities; including lectures, group work, discussion, demonstrations, student presentations and many more activities that help learning.
Sessions takes place once a week for 3 hours. The course will provide an introduction to teaching adults and will include a combination of lectures, group work, students presentations and micro-teach sessions.
The qualification is designed to enable candidates to:
Adopt an integrated approach to the theory and practice of teaching/training and tutoring
Reflect on their own previous/current levels of experience, practice and skills and areas for development.
Identify principles of learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation
Develop communication and inter-personal skills
Develop an awareness of their professional role and responsibilities.
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is accredited by City & Guilds and replaces PTLLS.
Why is this course for me?
During the course you will be asked to write a weekly reflective journal to evaluate your own learning. To complete the course you will need to complete a portfolio of evidence, including assignments, presentations, lesson planning and your micro-teach.
What do I need to sign up?
There are no official entry requirements for this course. All students will need to complete an initial assessment of maths and English before being enrolled on the course and an interest in teaching or training adults.
Is there anything else I need to know?
On the first session please bring pen and paper to take notes. You will also need a file to keep your handouts together and a ring binder with dividers for your portfolio
We recommend you buy at least one of the Teacher Training books for your own use; however these books can also be borrowed from our Learning Centre.
In addition to the 3 hours contact time you will need to set aside time each week to complete the work required for the course.
