The Gym & Fitness Centres industry was worth £1.7 billion in 2022 and since COVID has grown by 25.2%. The growth in this industry is largely driven by the low-cost gym sector, so we were delighted to strike a partnership with PureGym West Byfleet. Brooklands sport & fitness students will have multiple experiences through the year with PureGym West Byfleet to enhance their knowledge and skills while also offering opportunities for students work experience and employment.
The Extended Diploma in Sport, Fitness & Personal Training is an exciting two-year course which explores the interests of sport, coaching, exercise, and health & fitness.
The course is endorsed by CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport & Physical Activity) which means on successful completion of Year 1, students will be accredited with a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification, and on successful completion of Year 2 students will be accredited with a Personal Training qualification. As well as direct access to employment, the course provides excellent preparation for a sport, exercise, or health & fitness related degree course.

Who is the course suitable for?
This course is suitable for those who want a practical, hands-on and educational course. Completion of the 2-year course results in students being qualified to work as Personal Trainers, as well as providing a solid platform for applying to unversity or the first steps into employment in the world of health and fitness.
How is the course assessed?
There are a wide range of assessment methods to match the knowledge, skills and competencies required of students entering the Sport & Fitness industry or Higher education, which include coursework and assignments that are set and marked by both internal and external moderators.
This course is inspired by the growing need for qualified Personal and Fitness Trainers, in partnership with PureGym.

What qualifications will I need?
5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above, ideally including English & Maths or a Level 2 Certificate in Sport at Merit.

Brooklands College opened in 1951 (formerly Brooklands Technical College) and has grown steadily over the years, building on the college’s established expertise and developing our provision to meet the constantly changing demands of the local, regional and national economies.
In 2016 we opened our Ashford Campus to focus on a selection of full-time courses, as well as offering part-time courses in ESOL, Computing and English and Maths skills for adults.
The college has been awarded ‘Good’ by Ofsted following the recent December 2023 inspection, highlighting the many areas of strength including how “learners benefit from a calm and studious environment in which they learn well”. It also reports that “learners and apprentices work hard at their studies and demonstrate consistently the behaviours expected for study and employment”.
The vast majority of the classroom based learning takes place on the main campus at Weybridge with over 1,600 students engaged in study programmes. In addition the College provides a good range of programmes for adults and Higher Education provision in partnership with Oxford Brooks University and Kingston University.
This course provides an understanding of both the care and development of the child and their family in a variety of settings.
This qualification will provide classroom theory, practical learning and a 3 month industry placement with an employer. It has been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that it meets the needs of industry and prepares the students for work.
The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments.
The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training course is for those who currently work in or wish to pursue a teaching career in the post 16 or adult learning sector. You will develop those skills needed to be effective in teaching, learning and assessment.
