On the Level 3 Sports Massage course you will learn…
To understand the anatomy and physiology necessary to apply sports massage.
To be able to carry out a range of assessments.
To be able to collect information relating to the client’s current condition and status (including the identification of conditions that would be inappropriate for treatment by someone at this level of qualification).
To be able to distinguish between acute injury and soft tissue dysfunction.
To be able to recognise when to defer treatment or when to refer to a more qualified massage or healthcare professional.
To be able to select appropriate massage techniques for a range of clients.
To be able to apply sports massage techniques safely and effectively, understanding potential effects.
Entry Requirements
There are no qualifications required to gain entry to this course.
There is an element of communication involved (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) and learners should have basic skills in communication at a minimum.
Performing sports massage is a physical activity and learners will need to be fit enough to carry this out.
All applicants for level 3 must be over 18 years old.
Assessment
Learners will be assessed by:
A multiple-choice examination.
A portfolio of evidence including an assignment.
Practical demonstrations and assessments.
Logbook submission of practical hours (45 hours).
Accreditation
This Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy is a nationally recognised and accredited qualification.
The Complementary and Natural Care Council (CNHC) and the General Council for Massage Therapies (GCMT) also recognise the qualification.
Who is this course suitable for?
This qualification is suitable for those who wish to pursue or further a career in sports massage, providing sports massage therapy to a wide range of clients.
Clients can include sports performers, athletes, and individuals suffering from day-to-day problems such as repetitive strain injury, sprains, tension, and fatigue.
Progression
The qualification will enable learners to work as Sports Massage Therapists in various organisations.
The organisations can include rehabilitation clinics, wellness clinics, spas, coaching facilities, fitness facilities, and other sporting organisations.
Upon completing this Diploma, learners can progress onto the Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy (QCF).

This qualification prepares you for working in the sports massage sector, dealing with injured clients. The course is delivered 1 night a week on Wednesday evening 5-9pm over 18 weeks. You will need to complete the Sports Massage Therapy Diploma Level 3 before undertaking this course.
On the business side, Practice Development – how to start and run your own therapy practice – is included in the course to give the successful student the skills needed to succeed as a therapist. Relevant Health & Safety practices and requirements are also covered.
A full body Swedish massage can relax, stimulate, and ease stress, pain and muscular tension. Your body massage training will enable you to contribute to your client’s physical and mental wellbeing. Most Salons and Spa owners would expect a therapist to hold this qualification.
This course will include some theory and the practical associated with Body Massage. The practical and theoretical knowledge related to Body Massage will be taught along with communication and consultation.
The Level 4 Certificate furthers learners the knowledge and skills in sports massage to be able to treat, and /or seek to; correct common patterns of dysfunction and suitable pre -diagnosed injuries.
