Course Overview
This course is for 16-18 year old learners and will encourage, educate and empower you to run your own business and gain relevant skills and experience. It’s designed to introduce you to key business skills such as finance, marketing and business management and will develop your ability to think creatively about solving business problems. You will be introduced to a range of entrepreneurs and successful people from the business world.
The qualification is for learners who want to play a key role in future businesses. The first year is equivalent to 1.5 A Levels and successful completion will allow you to progress on to the year 2 of the programme, equivalent to 3 A Levels. This opens up progression routes to study in higher education or higher apprenticeships.
What you will learn?
The course is a one-year level 3 qualification. It is expected you will continue to the second year and achieve the full Extended Diploma qualification. During the first year you still study the following six units:
Enterprise and entrepreneurship: Understanding the importance of enterprise and entrepreneurs to the local and national economy.
Developing a marketing campaign: Understanding how a marketing campaign is developed, the different stages of the process from concept to delivery and developing your own campaign for a given product/service.
Personal and Business Finance: Understanding why money is important and how managing your money can help prevent future financial difficulties. This will help you understand the financial decisions you will need to take throughout your life and how risk can affect you and your choices.
Launch and run an enterprise: You need a good idea, to spot a gap in the market and have the organisational skills to launch and run an enterprise. In this module you will develop a plan for an enterprise and create a marketing strategy to inform your target market about your product/service.
Enterprise and entrepreneurship: Explore the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs and investigate the strategies employed by enterprises to develop and use entrepreneurial skills in their own workforce.
Innovation and enterprises: Explore and understand what innovation is about, including changing processes so that the enterprise becomes more efficient, as well as responding creatively to the needs and interests of consumers.
How you will be assessed?
The course is assessed through a combination of exams, coursework and simulated work problems.
Entry Requirements
You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and maths.
