The Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (Further Education and Skills) is a prestigious, nationally recognised qualification tailored for those aspiring to teach in the dynamic Further Education sector.
This diploma is an in-service route to a qualified teacher or assessor role in further education (FE), and equips you with the skills and knowledge to teach post-14 learners across various educational contexts, including:
FE Colleges
Sixth Form Colleges
Independent Training Providers (ITPs)
Adult Community Learning (ACL) providers
Offender Learning programmes
Upon completion of the course, you can apply for Qualified Teacher and Learning Skills (QTLS) through the Education Training Foundation. Achieving QTLS holds legal parity with QTS in schools, but is for the FE sector.
Course Format
This diploma is delivered in the classroom at our city-centre campus. We will be running this course with the awarding organisation City and Guilds (subject to approval). Classes will run on Thursdays at 13:00 – 18:30 for year 1 (Times will differ for year 2). You will study 8 units across the two year programme including:

Digital and online pedagogy
Managing behaviour
Action research
Coaching and mentoring
You will be assessed by completing written assignment, collecting placement evidence to build a portfolio, ten lesson observations, most of which will be carried out by your tutors.
