Overview of Level 6 Diploma in Integrative and Transactional Analysis Psychotherapeutic Counselling (3 Year Course)
The Diploma in Integrative & Transactional Analysis Psychotherapeutic Counselling is run over 3 years, consisting of 10 x 2-day blocks of training per year.The Core Theory Year counts as the first year of this diploma. Your progress through this process will be reviewed on an annual basis in your contractual relationship with your trainer.
Your Advanced Year 1 training is the first year in which you will be working with clients, and therefore you will need to begin supervision. ECPT has a supervisor’s directory and can give you support with finding a supervisor if needed. As with the Core theory year we use the training pentagon to consider all aspects of training, development assessment on the course as we believe these are the main areas for consideration in our aims and objectives. Advanced training assignments are marked to level 6 criteria to meet the requirements of PCIPC and UKCP.
Your Advanced Year 2 training will be your final year on this diploma course so as well as meeting all requirements of the year, it is also important to note that if you do wish to continue to the Level 7 Diploma you will need to decide during this year, so you are meeting all HIPC criteria. Before you get your diploma certificate we will need all payments paid as well as missed hours made up and all work submitted – student support is available throughout training to help with this
Clinical practice
It is essential that you are in clinical practice placement from the end of the foundation year. By the end of the 3 years, you will need to have logged a minimum of 100 clinical hours, of which you must get 1 hour of supervision for every 6 hours of practice. You must keep a record of all your clinical hours and get them signed off by your placement supervisor at the end of the year.
Supervision Supervision
of practice is essential for all students undertaking clinical practice. For every 6 hours of clinical practice, you must have one hour of supervision. There is a database of suitable UKCP accredited supervisors and therapists on them members sire in the Therapists Directory section. Top tip: we also offer supervisory training at ECPT Barbara Clarkson will be a good person to contact for affordable student supervision. You must keep a record of all your supervisions and get them signed off by your supervisor at the end of the year.

Overview of Level 7 Diploma in Integrative and Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy (4 Year Course)
The Diploma in Integrative & Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy is run over 4 years, consisting of 10 x 2-day blocks of training per year. The Core Theory Year counts as the first year of this diploma also.
The second and third years of the psychotherapeutic counselling and the psychotherapy training are in a group together. Differentiation is through the assessment process and course requirements.
Advanced training will focus on the development of counselling and psychotherapy skills. The theory will be diverse and in-depth. The first day each weekend will be theory based, the second day will incorporate a presentation by a trainee and research-based structured group tasks. There will also be a process group which will be facilitated for group process issues and for trainees to experience relationships at this level.
Level 7 asks you to study psychotherapy in more depth. You will specifically focus on more in-depth assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, supervisory and process aspects of psychotherapy; consider psychopathology within therapeutic practice as well as mental health and wellbeing; work with Deconfusion, transference and countertransference at a deeper relational level within the therapeutic relationship; evaluate and critique approaches to research and generate and develop research ideas and projects.
As part of this diploma, you will also be required to complete a mental health familiarisation placement – this can be done at any point in your 4 years but must be done before accreditation.
Clinical practice
It is essential that you are in clinical practice placement from the end of the Core Theory year. By the end of the 4 years, you will need to have logged a minimum of 250 clinical hours, of which you must get 1 hour of supervision for every 6 hours of practice.
You must keep a record of all your clinical hours and get them signed off by your placement supervisor at the end of the year. For accreditation with UKCP, 450 hours of clinical practice are required. Requirement for the diploma: 250 hours over 4 years
