Course Description

This unit will provide applicants with the skills, knowledge and information to safely operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11m or more), and to enable them to undertake assessment with a SafeWork SA registered Assessors for a licence to perform High Risk Work.

Units are based on the requirements of the National Standards for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work.

It involves the operation of a telescopic, hinged or articulated device or any combination of these used to support a platform on which personnel, equipment or materials may be elevated to perform work.

  • identifying workplace hazards, control measures and appropriate standards,

  • Selecting plant appropriate to the load and workplace conditions

  • Identifying relevant communication methods and procedures.

  • planning work

  • Conduct routine checks

  • Set up elevating work platform

  • Operate elevating work platform

  • Shut down and secure elevating work platform.

 

Entry Requirements

There are no pre-requisites for this unit; however, the minimum age for licensing is 18 years.

To obtain a licence, applicants must be able to provide 100 points of identification to Service SA or Australia Post along with the WHS Regulatory Authority Invoice and Notice of Satisfactory Assessment issued through your Assessor.

 

Delivery And Assessment

Training and assessment is conducted on site and is structured on a flexible basis to meet the needs of the organisation and students and includes classroom theory and practical on-job training.

Assessment is competency based and will include a mixture of classroom-based exercises and practical demonstration of skills.

Pathways

Materials And Equipment

Students will be provided with all written and physical materials required to complete the assessment. Students must wear long trousers, a long sleave top and steel-capped boots.
