Course Description

This unit will provide applicants with the skills, knowledge and information to safely operate a tower crane, and to enable them to undertake assessment with a SafeWork SA registered Assessors for a licence to perform High Risk Work.

Units are based on the requirements of the National Standards for Licensing Persons Performing High-Risk Work.

This unit specifies the outcomes required to operate a tower crane for licensing purposes, and covers a jib or boom/job crane mounted on a tower structure, demountable or permanent, including both horizontal and luffing jib types.

This unit does not cover self-erecting tower cranes.

Entry Requirements

There are no pre-requisites for this unit; however, the minimum age for licensing is 18 years.

To obtain a licence, applicants must be able to provide 100 points of identification to Service SA or Australia Post along with the WHS Regulatory Authority Invoice and Notice of Satisfactory Assessment issued through your Assessor.

 

Delivery And Assessment

Training and assessment is conducted on site and is structured on a flexible basis to meet the needs of the organisation and students and includes classroom theory and practical on-job training.

Assessment is competency based and will include a mixture of classroom-based exercises and practical demonstration of skills.

Pathways

Materials And Equipment

Students will be provided with all written and physical materials required to complete the assessment. Students must wear long trousers, a long sleave top and steel-capped boots.
