One of the prerequisites for the LG course/exam is that you have to be able to swim 400 meter in under 8 minutes (in a pool).
The course takes generally 6 to 8 weeks and has a theory and practical part. As part of the practical we'll do a surf swim or run-swim-run every week. Theory and practical classes are run depending on when the instructor and the class are available.
Some of the topics covered in the course are: Emergency first aid and CPR techniques, Communication signals, Rescue craft use, Spinal board use, One man drag and rescue techniques, Boxline and two man carry, Surf awareness, Radio procedures, General awareness
Welcome to Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club which has a home grown, proud history of surf lifesaving, and has long been ranked as one of the best clubs in the country.
Our heritage however does not stem from the accolades of surf competition only. Our club has, and continues to serve the Fish Hoek beach community through our volunteer based first responder medical emergency care offered during the Lifesaving Season (November to April). Specialised programmes and focused training to all involved is at the centre of our ongoing success.
Our very active Nipper club, with over 300 children, aged between 4 and 14 years old, learn the basics of lifesaving, sea skills and beach safety, every week throughout the summer. If you want to be part of a family orientated, friendly and inclusive Lifesaving club, look no further than Fish Hoek Surf.
