LBKA’s Little Lion’s encompass our 4-6 year old students. This age group also has its own belt grading system.
The Benefits of Little Lions
The point of this group is to develop basic Karate skills, which include self-defence, balance and agility. This is achieved through a fun and family friendly atmosphere with plenty of martial arts games.
Confidence
Confidence is developed by building on self-esteem. This is achieved after training consistently and learning basic self-defence skills. This knowledge and skill allows children to not be intimidated.
A lot of children are shy. We nurture them into believing in themselves. With the support of parents we bring them ‘out of their shell’. Remember, a bully will never pick on a confident person.
Respect
Respect for other people and property is learned through the instructors but must be supported by the young student’s parents. Always accepting that there are people of a higher authority. These people must be respected for their knowledge, wisdom and skills. This virtue is learned quickly.
Camaraderie
Camaraderie amongst the students is an important aspect of their development. Knowing that they share a common interest and goal. The ‘goal’ being their personal development. This is very closely linked with their ‘social ability’ and confidence.
Discipline
Discipline is achieved through dedication and learning to respect others. Focusing on practicing Kata helps children develop this virtue. Staying focused on getting the job done without being distracted by others is a skill we help the student develop.
Fun
Fun is something we all want and need, especially children. The instructors and students always share a good laugh. Instructors organise games centred on developing basic martial arts skills, agility, balance and very importantly, fairness. Being able to follow rules contributes largely to life skills in general.
Our original badge design was a triangular shape. Each facet of the triangle represented the three factors we believe creates the perfect martial artist – the mind, body and spirit.
Over the years due to aesthetics and balance of the text within the badge, we had changed the design but the philosophy remains the same. A healthy MIND contributes to a healthy body and allows us to develop social, intellectual and technical skills.
At the same time maintaining calm rational thought. Maintaining a healthy BODY enables us to achieve new skills and further develop technical skills. Developing core strength further develops technique, accuracy and stamina.
Each program is focused on developing martial arts skills suitable to the age groups in terms of physical and social development. We work on skills and concepts to develop our students for karate and life.
We offer adult classes for Beginners and Intermediate combined, and separate Advanced classes. Each student is given the opportunity to train with others at their level. Karate can be practised either as a discipline for personal development, a sport for fitness, or a skill for self-defence.
Shotokan Karate is a form of unarmed combat - However the "karate-ka" also uses their feet, knees and elbows. Karate as a martial art was cultivated in the island of Okinawa, south of mainland Japan.
The Little Kicker classes are for children from 3 years – 7 years. A uniform is not required straight away at any of our classes. We teach these “little kickers”?stranger danger, anti-bullying, discipline, self-confidence, self-defence and the art of Shotokan Karate as seen on TV and newspape...
This is an award-winning kids martial arts program. As an age-specific program, classes are divided into age groups that meet each child’s developmental, physical, social and emotional needs.
