American Safety & Health – Consulting and Training Services, LLC was created in 2010 by safety leaders from the nuclear and hazmat industries.
The founder and president of the company, Jim Walker, has over 28 years in safety from the nuclear industry and electric utilities in general. Jim has provided senior safety leadership at companies such as Entergy Nuclear, FPL/NextEra Energy Group, Bauer Foundation, UtiliCon Solutions and PSE&G
He has also served on many committees and subcommittees within the industry; such the Edison Electric Institute’s (EEI) Hexavalent Chromium committee, Regulatory committee and contractor safety committee.
He has also served on the Electric Power Research Institute’s (EPRI) Clearance and Tagging committee and was the external affairs chairman for the Nuclear Industrial Safety & Health Association (NISHA).
Jim also led the team that drafted and instructed the OSHA 30-hour General Industry Outreach Course to the Institute for Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) Radiation Protection Management team.
Jim has been heavily involved in OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) since 2001. He has provided the programs and mentorship to several nuclear, fossil and first wind electric generation plant to the VPP STAR level.
He served as an OSHA Special Government Employee (SGE) on many VPP evaluations as an OSHA team member, as well as been a speaker several times at the Voluntary Protection Program Participants Association (VPPPA).
Jim and ASH provided the mentorship and guidance to Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, the largest nuclear generating station in the United States to help them earn VPP STAR.
In the OSHA ergonomics training course, students will learn about the importance and application of ergonomics in the workplace. We will cover the proper use of tools, equipment, and machine controls; proper lifting techniques, and proper ways to move between tasks.
