Employers have a duty of care to protect their workers from the risk of injury and ill health from unsafe manual handling activities in the workplace. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations require employers to assess the risks to the health and safety of their workers. Where this identifies hazardous manual handling of loads, employers should also comply with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations.
The Health and Safety at Work Act and The Management of Health and Safety Regulations require employers to provide their employees with health and safety information and training, this should supplement, as necessary, with more specific information and training on manual handling injury risks and prevention as part of the steps to reduce risk required by regulation.
